Artists Hubs - The Impressionist Artists

67

By Uninvited Writer

The French Impressionist artists challenged the artistic conventions of their time. They were ridiculed and ignored by the art establishment in France. However, they came out on top and we still know most of their names and their art more than a century later. The Impressionists taught us so much about seeing beyond what was in front of our eyes to see the inner life of a landscape, a still life, or the human figure.

I have written several hubs on the Impressionist artists, and the post-Impressionist artists. Each hub features a short biography of the artist and a selection of his or her work. They came out of a challenge I took to write 30 hubs in 30 days. I hope you enjoy them.

I absolutely love impressionist art...Am lucky enough to have toured all the major places you can find it (France, Holland, Scotland and London); These days they have an exhibition on in london on Van gogh! I fell for his paintings all over again.

Anyway, great idea for a hub series and look forward to reading more..:)

On my pages have been two read many times stories, one about Van Gogh and the Monet. They both take a bit of a twist on the two artists, including some reference to the art Van Hogh did in Auvers. David Russell

While I am of course a fan of all the big names from this period, I gained a lot from studying Paul Cezanne's work. I incorporated green into my own painting through studying him, and used it frequently to indicate shadows and underlying structure when I painted portraits or the human figure.

From Gauguin I took the idea of using outlines, and I'm still not sure what I found intriguing about that, but I still do it sometimes. Now my outlines are thicker and the style I chose to emulate has become something different altogether.

Well, sorry, I didn't mean for this comment to be about me, I just think there are some very subtle things to appreciate in the works of this period that aren't always considered. Thanks for reminding me of the great work from this period, I'm going to get out some of the old art books and take another look.

Thanks again.

I have always been fascinated by Impressionism. The style is so calming...and flowing. The colors and the way they pop are spectacular. Definitely my favorite style of painting. I love Monet and I'll be back to read more and look at the pretty pictures!!

Thumbs up and nice to see you!!

Uninvited, I actually had the pleasure of viewing Starry Night up close in person and could not believe how lucky I felt to see it and stand in the presence of such greatness. I thought I'd comment by telling you my favorite impressionist painter but that is impossible, the whole tribe created such marvelous work.
