By Uninvited Writer

A Hard Day’s Night was the third studio album from The Beatles. It was also the name of their first film, which was released 4 days before the album.  The album was released in the UK on July 10, 1964 on Parlophone/EMI records. Side one of the album features all the songs that appeared in the film. The album was released in the US in June of 1964 with different tracks.

A Hard Day’s Night reached the top of the Billboard charts in July of 1964. The album features only songs written by Lennon/McCartney; there are no cover songs on this album. A Hard Day’s Night was produced by George Martin and features his piano playing.

The album was listed at number 388 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

  • If I Fell
  • I’m Happy Just to Dance with You
  • And I Love Her
  • Tell Me Why
  • Can’t Buy Me Love

A Hard Day's Night

The opening chord in this song is one of the most iconic in pop music. It was written by John Lennon in one night and reached the top of the charts in August of 1964. John Lennon also sings lead on the song.

Other than the opening chord of the song, I love the chorus. "When I'm home, everything seems to be fine."

I Should Have Known Better

This song was written by John Lennon. When asked what it meant in 1980, he said "That's me. Just a song-- It doesn't mean a damn thing."

The video below features a scene from the movie, supposedly in the luggage car of a train it was actually filmed in a van shook by crew members.

Can't Buy Me Love

This is one of the Beatles best-known songs. It was written by Paul McCartney and was the group's fourth number one single.

This is one of those happy songs I remember from my childhood. It cheers me up every time I hear it.

Side Two

  • Any Time at All
  • I’ll Cry Instead
  • Things We Said Today
  • When I Get Home
  • You Can’t Do That
  • I’ll Be Back

Things We Said Today

This song was written by Paul McCartney, who sang lead on the song. The song was the B-side for the single A Hard Days Night.

Again, the chorus of this song is quite appealing.

You Can't Do That

The song was written by John Lennon and is seen by many to be semi-autobiographical.

This was always a favorite song of mine as a child, naturally I didn't read the lyrics the same way as I do now.

'Things We Said Today' was one of my favourites and I haven't heard it for ages, so thanks for that. Isn't it amazing to think those young girls would be well in their 60s or 70s by now?
